    Ray Wakui, the curator of Blender Fes, interviews Nathan Vegdahl, an official Blender developer! Based on questions submitted in advance, Nathan will discuss the intentions behind certain Blender features and share insights about Blender's vision for the future.

    Ray Wakui

    Born in Tokyo. Graduated from the University of Tokyo and its graduate school, where he studied aerospace engineering. He began his journey in video production by creating a music video for a band he formed during his university days. In spring 2021, after a year and a half of production, he released “Everything Lost,” a live-action composite music video where everything except the characters was created in 3DCG. This work, which he single-handedly produced all processes except for filming, became a topic of discussion in various media and won the Excellence Award in the “CM/Promotion Video Category” at the VFX-JAPAN Awards 2022. Since then, he has been utilizing his VFX techniques, mainly in live-action compositing, to handle VFX and direction for music videos of various artists including Yuya Tegoshi, Koda Kumi, and ZUTOMAYO. Furthermore, he is currently active in a wide range of projects, including TV commercials for “Tamagotchi” and web commercials for “MOS Burger” and “TOYOTA.” This translation maintains the structure and content of the original Japanese text, highlighting the creator’s educational background, pivotal works, awards, and current projects in the visual effects and video production industry.

    Now working as a software developer on Blender’s animation system, Nathan started his involvement with Blender as a user in 1998. Since then he has worked in many different roles throughout his career, including as an animator and character rigger on two of Blender’s Open Movie projects, as a UX designer at Nintendo Technology Development in America, and working with Ian Hubert on VFX tools for indie film makers.”
